SXSW 2011

SAMSUNG was great to us this year! They sponsored two events that were unforgettable. The Spin Magazine party and the Perez Hilton; One Night In Austin Party. It was a nice way to focus my energy instead of racing around to several parties a day. Their line ups left little to be desired.

One in particular that I just can't say enough about was: DJ Mia Moretti and Catlin Moe.

Check out their video from that night... HERE.

Beyond that the stubbs party was great...this video I shot of Wolfgang Gartner being treated like shit was something worth sharing. The Kills did a sound check during his whole set. It was unbelievable.

I decided to cover the events with 35mm film this year, those pics are in the process of being developed and will be up before too long.

Heres a little mix for the road.

Miike Snow – Black And Blue (Netsky Remix)
The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It (Madeon remix)

The White Stripes

One of America's biggest and best rock bands is no more. The White Stripes have broken up, according to a statement on the band's Web site. There will be no more new recordings or live performances, although fans can expect unreleased live and studio recordings in the future. The band explains the reason for the break up is "mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way."

The Descendents- FFF Fest 2010

The Descendents were amazing. After all this time they sounded exactly the same. The energy was high and the crowd loved it! Fun Fun Fun is hands down the best festival, several times I overheard someone say; I like this so much more than ACL. FFF seems to flow much better than most events and there is very little downtime. In two days we saw Cap N'Jazz, Delorean, Gwar, Mgmt, Yelle, Suicidal Tenencies, Bad Religion, Butcher Bear and Charlie, an Air Sex Competition, and of course The Descendents.

Cap N' Jazz- Last Show- Fun Fun Fun Fest 2010

This was a great show! So bad ass to see bands you figured were raising kids and never going to play again! They tell us in the video this is their last show. I'm Glad to have been there. Tonight we get The Descendents!!! Together for the first time in 10 years.

Helloooooo world, have some fun and check out this week's post.

A Fun Fun Fun Playlist!

Stubbs Austin. 10.28.10  Great Show Last Night

Elvis Perkins

It first started last weekend listening to This American Life, in the closing of act 1 the show faded out to this first song..In a 4 second glimpse I knew I had to find out who was singing. With a little goo-diligence I tracked down the song, While You Were Sleeping..As the week progressed he was popping up on every station I happened upon, each song better than the one before. Things always seem to happen that way, like when you learn a new word and then hear people using it all the time. I find myself wondering, was I really ignorant to that word all these years or was I just meant to learn it now, right before everyone else started using it..... It a shame it took me so long to find this guy, but then again...maybe it came at just the right time.  Check these two out. I love this guy.

Mix Tape-September 2010

A road trip out west proved to be just the medicine I needed. As we scoured the long desert roads and dark nights of Wyoming, Arizona, and New Mexico I remember frozen moments where the music and the landscape seem to move perfectly together. My girlfriend introduced me to the Tallest Man on Earth. This mix was inspired by them. Check out her work here and here.!

Beach House

Elvis Aaron Presley

Elvis died this day in 1977.  His music was and still is one of a kind. I always appreciate styles that you can only find in one place. Unlike today with every new band seemingly becoming one sound. Elvis killed it back then and continues today.

Mumford & Sons & The Middle East @ La Zona Rosa 06/10

About six months ago I met this amazing person in Austin who always keeps me updated on upcoming shows and every time I am too busy or forgetful to get tickets, she comes through and hooks me up. A truly good friend. I am very thankful. Last week I got back in town; having missed several shows I really wanted to see, Neon Indian & Neil Young to name a couple. Anyway, we went to this show at La Zona Rosa the night I got back in town. Cheers Frau Obenhaus. Sorry about the shite picture, my camera is traveling at the moment.

The National

In a bizarre twist today I received a text message from a buddy asking me to send him a song to add to a video he was making. This seemed quite normal as he often makes videos and blogs about music. http://www.austinriffraff.net

When a follow up text arrived saying oh sorry, wrong number I was confused. Turns out Andy no longer had that number and the person on the other end made a good mistake texting me. I sent the song off to the stranger and decided to share it with you. Hopefully we can post the video when they complete it.

Anyway.. Fake Empire By the National.

Another gem coming from Brooklyn by way of Cincinnati circa '99

Samantha Crain

Samantha Crain of Oklahoma stopped through Little Rock, AR last night to play the beloved White Water Tavern. It was a huge surprise to me, as I only stopped by to see an old friend. This little firecracker stands about 4 foot 10 and carries the voice of a giant. Her music is like dark southern rock with a nice punk rock edge. I'd definitely go see her again. Check it out.
